When a diver underrotates a dive or comes out of a rotation too early, the dive is usually"short". divers often perform a "save" as soon as the body in under the surface of the water to stop the rotation of the dive.

This entry and sound usually indicate that the diver entered the water with little or no splash.

The quest for the rip entry is a source of potential injury, particularly to the shoulder capsule, because the diver must use the arms to accelerate through the surface of the water as quickly as possible.

Injury prevention(상해 예방)

Several issues need to be addressed when designing an injury prevention program for competitive divers.

If some of these issues are ignored, serious injury may result.

A basic checklist for injury prevention in competitive diving should include.

1. Equipment is in proper working order.

2.Coaches are certified professionals.

3.Divers are advanced at a rate that parallels their ability.

4.Divers have had a complete medical physical examination and are cleared for competitive diving.

5.divers perform a warm-up routine consisting of stretching and flecibility exercises.

6.Divers participatre in an individualized strength and conditioning program.

The following section on the etiology of diving injuries will provide more detail on items 1through 4 as they relate to injury prevention.



flexibility is the range of motion through which the joints of the body can move within the limits of pain.

Active stretching in divers enables them to move a body segment against gravity and/or the opposing strech of the antagonist muscles.

Diving requires wide ranges of joint motion for both function and aesthetics.

The functions of take-off require dirsuflexion in the ankle, flexion and extension in kenns and hips for squats and jumps, shoulder circumduction in arm swing, and flexion and extension of the spine to initiate somersaults.

In general, the more somersaults initiated, the greater is the degree of flexion or extension of the spine required.

A functional hollow shape to cerate a rip entry requires shoulder girdle flexibility along the long axis with the arms overhead.

Aesthetics require an elongated, rigid body with knees locked and ankles and feet plantarflexed during entry.

The objective of a stretching prigram is ti achieve joint capsule flexibility so that the diver's optimal stength and power may be applied throughout the fullrange of motion.

For injury control, the diver should demonstrate flexibity at the extremes of the range used during the competitiveactivity.
